In the day of information technology and social media, information and option overwhelm happens to us all. When it comes to planning your wedding style, you want to be as clear headed as possible after you dream about it and select a theme. It’s important to keep consistency for yourself and your guests alike, from the decor details down to the wedding invitation.
So how do you make sure that you are creating your wedding event as unique and true to yourself as possible, from the venue to the menu you choose?
Get Dreamy, think Big Picture
Take a breath, start big and dreamy, then work your way to the details.
We love what The Knot had to say on first steps. Close your eyes and ask yourself these questions:
“Picture your dream wedding. What do you see?
“Big (everyone you know) or small (close friends and relatives)?
“Outdoors or indoors?
“Home (one of your hometowns or your current city) or away (hello destination wedding!)?
“Modern, classic, romantic, vintage, rustic or all-out glam?
“Fancy, casual or somewhere in between?
“Spring, summer, winter or fall?”
Identify your Inspiration
Next, it’s time to take your wedding dreams onto paper (or an online wedding inspiration board). While you’re collecting imagery, take notes of the themes that develop. What are you consistently drawn to and why? Are you drawn to a more formal setting, or a casual one?
Need a journal to write all this down? We have you covered… beautiful new journals designed and printed by Paperjam given to our wedding couples.

Choose your Style and Color Palette
Take a look at your inspiration board. What colors stood out to you? Which give you the feeling you desire for your wedding day? Choose two colors to start with, typically a primary and one or two accent colors. You can always add in more complimenting accent colors to the mix.
Along with colors, choose a symbol or shape that will set the tone for your wedding style. Here in Portland, weddings tends to take a more natural shape with motifs like ferns, branches, and leaves. Florals are always popular, but there are so many ways to narrow in a theme. Choose a personal one that’s not overly trendy, but you will love to look back on years later.
Communicating your Wedding Style: Bring it to Paper
Now that you understand the look and feeling your wedding will have (it’s natural for it to evolve along the way!) you’ll want to communicate it to your guests. Materials like Save-the-Dates, invitations, RSVP cards and more are essential ways to build excitement and prepare your guests for what your big day will be like. The Save-the-Date and Wedding Invitation Suite set the tone!
