What is #GivingTuesday?
#GivingTuesday is a movement — now in its 4th year, that comes the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. It is a way to kick off the charitable season and focus on giving rather than buying (like Black Friday and Cyber Monday). The movement began in 2012 in New York City at a cultural center called 92nd Street Y.
#GivingTuesday focuses on the idea of giving- whatever you can. Give money, your time, small acts of kindness. Anything you give is important and can help benefit those around you. Whether you are donating to a charity, volunteering at a local shelter, or bringing food to the homeless, giving is a way to bring us all together.
This movement is powered by social media and can be found on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. The movement has sectors all over the world in many different countries. The US does have a sector in Oregon, and this movement is the #OregoniansGive sector.
